New “Extra” Course Starting In April

arrlextraApril 6, 2016 to June 29, 2016 @ 6:30 to 9:00 PM every Wednesday evening at the LDS Church, 12002 Peacock Hill Road, Gig Harbor, WA. 98335.
 
The books that will be required for the class are the ARRL Extra Class License Manual, 10th Edition ($29.95) and the ARRL FCC Rules and Regulations Book ($5.95) and there will be  a small nominal fee $5.00 for materials.

Simulated Emergency Test: 2016-03-12

     DATE:         SATURDAY MARCH 12TH,2016

     TIME:         0900 THROUGH 1200 HRS

     FREQUENCIES: 146.720
                   14.285 Mhz
                    7.245 Mhz

     CONCEPT OF THE EXERCISE:

        On Saturday March 12,2016 the Washington State RACES Western
Washington Section ARES will conduct a simulated Emergency Test.
This exercise is one part of a larger exercise CASCADIA RISING.
The full title of the exercise is CASCADIA SUBDUCTION ZONE
EARTHQUAKE AND FUNCTIONAL EXERCISE,which will be held later in the
year.The states of Idaho,Oregon, Washington and the province of
British Columbia will be participating.Modeling done indicated
that up to 76% of the communications facilities along the I 5
corridor in Washington and Oregon may suffer medium to high
damage; the figure is closer to 100% on the coast.Needles to say
the ability of Emergency Operating Centers to communicate with
field responders will be compromised.Amateur Radio will be called
upon to fill the void.

     ACTION REQUESTED:

        Between the hours of 0900 and 1200 on Saturday March 12th check in
with NET CONTROL on 146.720. I will be the NET CONTROL. Additional
you are requested to check in with the nets on 14.285 and 7.245.
        Our portion of the exercise will conclude at 1200 hours on
Saturday March 12.

Personal & Family Preparedness Fair–Elma, Wa–5 Mar 16

I’m hoping to have this announcement included in your broadcasting and publications over the next couple of weeks.

What: A personal and family preparedness fair. The event will include classes, displays and demonstrations on:

  • Making your own family preparedness plan
    Emergency “Go” kits
    Water storage and purification
    First aid kits
    Fire and other safety around the home
    Personal wellness considerations and special needs
    Food storage options
    Provident living, including financial tools
    3 cooking focuses. Dutch oven, in an emergency and using your stored foods

We will also have a strong HAM radio presence. Local HAMs will be holding a HAM day event with equipment set up to demonstrate and answer questions.

Where: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 702 E. Main St., Elma,  Washington
