Reminder that Jerry (N7YGE) is going to give a class on APRS at our January meeting. He asks that y’all download and install APRSISCE/32:

First off, people are going to have to get a passcode to use the program if they have not ran any APRS program before.  If they have already used any APRS program in the past, they can use the same passcode;  works on all APRS programs.

Note: If you don’t have an APRS-IS passcode for your callsign, send an e-mail to here or direct to here to request one. Make sure you include your callsign and the fact that it’s for APRSISCE/32.

(Click) Here is the website that tells everyone how to install this program:

If they can read and follow the website, they can be up and running before my presentation in January.  Have them try to install the program and run it before January.  Then they can bring their questions to me and get answer to where they may have had difficulty.  This program can be used on the internet or over RF.  But they can run it on the internet so they do not have to have any equipment other than their PC.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
132 PM PST THU DEC 18 2014

...HEAVY RAIN COULD CAUSE FLOODING BY LATE THIS WEEKEND...

HEAVY RAIN IS FORECAST OVER WESTERN WASHINGTON SATURDAY AND
SUNDAY. STRONG WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT WILL BRING HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES
TO THE COAST AND OLYMPICS ON SATURDAY. HEAVY RAIN WILL SPREAD
INTO THE CASCADES SATURDAY AFTERNOON. MODELS CURRENTLY TAPER RAIN
OVER THE OLYMPICS ON SUNDAY BUT KEEP HEAVY RAIN GOING IN THE
CASCADES...ESPECIALLY OVER THE CASCADES FROM ABOUT KING COUNTY
SOUTH. THE TOTAL MODEL RAINFALL OVER ABOUT 48 HOURS FROM SATURDAY
MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT AMOUNTS TO AROUND FOUR TO SIX INCHES
OVER THE OLYMPICS AND CENTRAL CASCADES WITH A TEN-INCH BULLSEYE
OVER MOUNT RAINIER.

THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE ENOUGH TO CAUSE FLOODING. AT THIS TIME
THE RIVERS MOST LIKELY TO FLOOD ARE THE ONES FLOWING OFF THE
CASCADES OF KING...PIERCE...AND LEWIS COUNTIES...AS WELL AS THE
UNUSUALLY FLOOD-PRONE SKOKOMISH RIVER IN MASON COUNTY. ANY FLOODING
WOULD LIKELY BEGIN SUNDAY WITH CRESTS SUNDAY NIGHT OR MONDAY. THE
EXACT POSITION OF THE STREAM OF MOISTURE IS UNCERTAIN SO THIS
OUTLOOK COVERS THE ENTIRE OLYMPIC PENINSULA AND ALL OF THE
CASCADES RIVERS.

...HEAVY RAINFALL TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY WILL LEAD TO AN
INCREASE RISK OF LANDSLIDES IN WESTERN WASHINGTON...
...STRONG WINDS POSSIBLE ACROSS WESTERN WASHINGTON ON THURSDAY...

HEAVY RAINFALL OF 9 TO 13 INCHES IN THE OLYMPICS AND NORTH
CASCADES WITH GENERALLY 2 TO 6 INCHES ELSEWHERE IS EXPECTED
DURING THE TWO AND HALF DAY PERIOD ENDING LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
THIS AMOUNT OF RAIN WILL PUT EXTRA PRESSURE ON SOIL INSTABILITY...
LEADING TO AN INCREASED RISK OF LANDSLIDES.

WITH AN ELEVATED LANDSLIDE RISK...RAINFALL INDUCED LANDSLIDES ARE
POSSIBLE DURING BURSTS OF INTENSE RAINFALL OR WHEN THERE IS HEAVY
RAINFALL OVER A PERIOD OF A DAY OR TWO. A GRADUALLY DIMINISHING
RISK OF LANDSLIDES WILL CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THE RAIN
ENDS. AREAS MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO LANDSLIDES ARE STEEP COASTAL
BLUFFS AND OTHER STEEP HILLSIDES.

LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP OFF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
COAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT THEN MOVE INLAND ACROSS WESTERN WASHINGTON
ON THURSDAY. THERE IS STILL A LOT UNCERTAINTY CONCERNING THE EXACT
TRACK AND DEPTH OF THE LOW...WITH ONLY SLIGHT VARIATIONS MAKING A
BIG DIFFERENCE ON THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS. HOWEVER...IT DOES APPEAR
THERE IS SOME THREAT OF STRONG WINDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN
WASHINGTON THURSDAY INCLUDING THE GREATER PUGET SOUND URBAN
CORRIDOR. MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE ON THIS POTENTIAL HIGH WIND EVENT.

I installed it and had it up and running inside 10-minutes once I got the passcode. Wasn’t difficult.
