First Use Of The “S” Word For Friday Late

Interesting Wx weekend to bring us out of our Thanksgiving Feast Food Stupor with the possibility of snow for the lowlands late Friday night into Saturday all day. This, of course, after a general Flood Warning for the Skokomish River near Potlatch, Mason and other counties. You should read all about it here.

Of course, Weather prediction for Western Washington is like guessing the order the kernels of a handful of popcorn will pop; you don’t know what you’re going to get until you’re eating the macaroni salad. So it might be time to make sure your radio is working, your antenna is secure, and your emergency power supply will handle the job.

It COULD Happen Here!

HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA

...HEAVY RAIN IN THE OLYMPICS THIS WEEK COULD CAUSE SOME RIVERS TO FLOOD...

THE OLYMPIC MOUNTAINS COULD SEE TWO TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN TODAY THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING...FOLLOWED BY THREE TO FOUR INCHES WEDNESDAY NIGHT
THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL RISE TO OVER 8000 FEET
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND THEN REMAIN AT 6000 TO 7000 FEET THURSDAY
INTO FRIDAY. THERE IS A FAIR AMOUNT OF UNCERTAINTY OVER THE
RAINFALL AMOUNTS HOWEVER.

THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS THAT ARE EXPECTED MEAN THAT FLOODING IS
POSSIBLE ON THE MORE FLOOD-PRONE RIVERS FLOWING OFF OF THE
OLYMPICS. THIS INCLUDES THE SKOKOMISH AND BOGACHIEL RIVERS. OTHER
RIVERS LIKE THE ELWHA AND THE HOH WILL BE RUNNING HIGH AS WELL. IF
FLOODING DOES OCCUR...IT IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR DURING THE SECOND
PERIOD OF RAIN.

PEOPLE NEAR FLOOD-PRONE RIVERS IN THIS AREA SHOULD PREPARE FOR
POTENTIAL FLOODING OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. STAY TUNED FOR ANY
CHANGES IN THE FORECAST AND THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION FROM THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

$$
Otherwise we hope y’all have a great Thanksgiving. Be careful. Be safe.

Next MCARC Meeting: 2014-11-08

The Mason County Amateur Radio Club will meet Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 8:30 AM at the Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton, Washington. (Coffee provided) Y’all come join us. Everybody is welcome! Remember that Testing is immediately after the meeting.

Interesting video on JT65 from YouTube. JT65 is another digital mode made mostly for those that just like to make contacts without a lot of gab. This is QRP to the max with 5 watts the “usual” transmitting power. Available on all bands. Look for JT65-HF or any other program written for JT65.

Information about Weather Net will be posted as soon as revisions are made. We’re in our first week of cooler, wetter, weather, and you can be sure it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Even if NOAA predicts a warmer, milder winter for much of the Northwest. (Yes, we all have our own opinions of the “weather guessers” but here is not the place to air those!)

As always, items you’d like published, suggestions for the web site, or general complaints (about the web site) can always be e-mailed to me for consideration.
